Learn About BRANCH
PROJECT PHASES
The BRANCH Project is made up of 5 main phases that will occur over the course of 5 years, beginning in April 2024 and ending in March 2029. Each phase has a specific focus that will contribute to the overall project goal of launching a pilot study of our training resource.
Learn more details about each phase, and explore all 5 phases of our project below!

Phase One
Planning and Preparation: April 2024-March 2025
The goal of Phase One is to prepare the team and the community for the research project. This phase includes planning for the qualitative study in phase two, establishing an Indigenous Content Committee (ICC), and encouraging participation in the project.
Phase Two
Listening and Learning: April 2025-March 2026
In Phase 2, we are aiming to conduct a qualitative study where we collaborate with participants to learn about their experiences and answer the following questions:
How can TVIC and cultural safety be practically applied to research practices (recruitment, data collection, analysis, etc.)?
What role does gender play in meeting the needs of Indigenous research participants, including 2SLGBTQQIA+ people?
How can researchers create safe and positive experiences for Indigenous people engaging in research?
How do feelings of safety, positive experiences, and having ones’ needs met through research influence participation in research?
We aim to facilitate a safe space for these conversations with a Community Gathering. The goal of this gathering is to bring the community together to discuss current research processes and practices, and ensure that community voices are centred within this project.
Phase Three
Understanding and Developing Resources: April 2026-March 2028
The goal of Phase Three is to interpret and understand the results of the questions asked in Phase Two. In processing and understanding this information, we will begin to develop a training resource.
The training resource will be developed throughout Phase 3 in preparation for testing through a pilot program, beginning in Phase Four.
Phase Three is about developing our Training Resource.
Phase Four
Testing and Adapting Resources: April 2027-March 2029
In Phase Four, the training resource will begin a pilot study, where it will be tested by researchers and trainees across the province of Ontario. The pilot will show us the effectiveness of the resource, and how it may need to be adapted and improved.
Phase Four is about testing the effectiveness of our training resources and making changes.
Phase Five
Resource Pilot Launch: April 2028-March 2029
In Phase Five, the training resource will be finalized and launched. The launch will consist of multiple events to share the resource and ensure it is being used most effectively.
